FRIDAY ROUNDUP – 26 APRIL 2025

by hapago

Ok y’all, we are so back. Sincerest apologies for the delay in communication! There was a lot happening this winter: burnout, recording, moving, etc. etc. Make no mistake: Twist Top is alive and well! Do you have a band, an album, a movie, anything, that you’ve just got to write about? Hit me up: twisttopmag@gmail.com !

Anyways!

HEARTKNIT – S/T

HEARTKNIT contains multitudes… I don’t know anything about this band, and haven’t really found a whole lot out about them other than this AMAZING six song EP on bandcamp. Pitchfork would call it “etheral, dreamy wall of guitars,” TWIST TOP calls it fucking amazing. It captivates me in all aspects, trying to hear every single intricacy that was poured into these songs. I can’t stop putting them on at every opportunity I get. If you know anything about this band, please put me on. If you’re this band, thank you and please come play a show in Nashville.

SILK – “SILVER BUTTON”

Huge shoutout to Mag in Texas for putting me onto this track. Another band with an air of mystery about them, with only one recording apparently…unless…? There’s an active attention being paid to choruses and melodies across the country right now (gfb, horsegirl, sharp pins, to name a few), and we are all better for it. It appears that SILK was on the forefront of this, and hopefully will have something else further down the line!

TURNSTILE – “NEVER ENOUGH”

Five years ago, the world stopped. Four years ago, Turnstile kicked it back on with the seminal “GLOW ON”. I felt like every single person around me was wearing that small text block image sweatshirt. Eventually, everyone started wondering: how would they top “TLC”? “UNDERWATER BOI”? The Taco Bell-approved “HOLIDAY”?? Then the billboard went up in Silverlake and then we were graced a short time later with “NEVER ENOUGH,” the lead single from the new record. To be honest, at first I was sketched because it sounded very similar to something from “GLOW ON,” but then I realized that’s dumb and I don’t really care that much about that. “NEVER ENOUGH” is a great song with a great music video accompaniment.
